GOODMAN IS COMMITTED TO CREATING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTS WHICH BALANCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS WITH SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS.
All new Goodman buildings are designed to be sustainable, energy efficient and strive to reduce carbon emissions, leading to energy, cost and maintenance savings over the entire life of the building. In order to benchmark the environmental performance of our buildings, we assess all new UK buildings against the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
All new buildings will achieve a BREEAM rating of “Very Good” as a minimum. We implement the requirements of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and assess the operational energy performance of all new buildings. All new Goodman buildings will target an ‘A’ rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
One of our sustainability successes includes our development at Hoddesdon, North of the M25. During the development process the careful consideration of the environmental performance of the 218,000 sq ft building has resulted in the award of a BREEAM rating of “Excellent” which was the highest BREEAM rating at the time.
In September 2009 Goodman was appointed as development partner by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (now the Greater London Authority) for the development of its flagship “Sustainable Industries Park” in Dagenham. The decision to choose Goodman reflects our proven track record in delivering sustainable buildings over other major development companies. In becoming a member of the UK Green Building Council, Goodman is committed to supporting the council in its mission “to dramatically improve the sustainability of the built environment by radically transforming the way it is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated.”
Goodman is also a The Planet Mark, (previously Planet Positive) business. This is an international mark of sustainability, signifying a commitment to reduce the carbon emissions associated with our operations. It indicates that we have gone beyond the boundaries of the business by taking positive action to be more sustainable. New projects can also be assessed and become certified as a Planet Mark building.
